ALLURE MAGAZINE x JIHAE

JiHAE isn’t your typical rockstar. For starters, the South Korean-born pop-rock singer is the daughter of a diplomat. She grew up in Sweden and Nigeria, received a degree in political science from Emory University, and even dabbled in modeling for a period of time before pursuing a full-fledged music career. You may recognize her from those iconic Eileen Fisher ads, but she’s clearly more than meets the eye.

You can also add activist to her resume as she has rubbed shoulders with industry greats like Lenny Kravitz, and recently collaborated with Eurythmics musician Dave Stewart on the song “Man to Man Woman to Woman,” as a part of the U.S. State Department’s 2012 “Walk a Mile” campaign, which promoted cross cultural tolerance and world peace. Yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.

JiHAE recently made her acting debut last October on Mars, a National Geographic television miniseries, that required her to cut off her waist-length signature black locs. The end result? A cropped sexy undercut that compliments her edgy rocker style, and highlights her almond shaped eyes and gorgeous cheekbones.

When it comes to beauty, JiHAE is a no-fus, no-makeup makeup kind-of-girl who gravitates towards organic products. Her recipe for wellness is having a healthy mind, body, and spirit, of course. “Being healthy makes me feel beautiful,” the songstress tells Allure. And with a fitness regimen that consist of yoga and wing chun, an ancient Chinese martial art created by women, it’s easy to see why she looks so incredible. Wing chun is more than a workout for JiHAE, it’s a skill that takes dedication, inner strength, and above all—perseverance. In this episode of “The Power of Beauty,” series, JiHAE shares her favorite post-workout routine, advice on relieving stress, and the unexpected places she finds beauty products.
