The Italian coffee company Lavazza has unveiled the 2012 edition of its collectible calendar. Each year, the calendar is shot by a world renowned photographer, but to celebrate the 20th edition, Lavazza used 12 photographers who had shot previous calendars, asking them to create a self-portrait.

Watch how Eugenio Recuenco becomes Don Quixote, the most Spanish of literary characters for the 2012 Lavazza Calendar.

If you are in Los Angeles this winter, please check out works by Jean-Louis Wolff, part of a group show “The Qi of Modern Cathay” at CANVAS Malibu.

This exhibition, curated by Kim Chu Hahn and PINCOLLECTIVE, explores the fertile heritage of Chinese culture and its various incarnations in the contemporary world.

Jean-Louis Wolff created a series of impactful images taken at a Shanghai based circus.

 Always fashionable and using the best fashionable photographers, next year’s Lavazza calendar turns the focus back on the photographers, asking them for self portraits. With a Lavazza cup o…f course. They’re pretty much what you’d expect from each, Elliot Erwitt’s is silly, Annie Liebovitz in gumboots…Having being awarded the honour of shooting the complete 2007 Lavazza Calendar, Eugenio says the following of his self portrait for the 2012 edition;

“The story I want to tell is of an encounter between two cultures – Spanish and Italian – by using the two legends: Don Quijote and Lavazza. A mixture of story-telling and history, fantasy and reality, the surreal and the real. You know, when you daydream like ‘El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote” you have to keep your eyes wide open. Maybe with a good coffee”.

Look out for Eugenio’s transformation into Don Quijote in the behind the scenes video to be posted in the coming days.
